About Us
Inuvik Homeless Shelter Advisory is a community-led organization committed to supporting people experiencing homelessness and housing instability in Inuvik. Through the Inuvik Homeless Shelter, we provide a safe, respectful and supportive environment for people who need a place to stay during difficult circumstances.
Our work is grounded in dignity, compassion and respect. We recognize that every person's circumstances are different and that homelessness can involve many challenges. We aim to meet people where they are, provide practical support and create an environment where everyone is welcomed and treated without judgment.
On January 5, 2026, operational responsibility transitioned from Housing NWT to the Advisory Board, bringing the delivery and direction of services under local community leadership. This transition was designed to maintain continuity for clients and staff while allowing decisions to remain closely connected to the needs and realities of the community.
We recognize that providing a safe place to stay is only one part of supporting people experiencing homelessness. By working alongside local organizations and service providers, we help strengthen connections to housing, health, social services and other community resources that can assist individuals as they work toward greater stability and independence.
As a community-led organization, we are committed to listening, learning and responding to changing needs. Our goal is to provide safety and support today while helping create opportunities for greater stability tomorrow, ensuring that people facing homelessness are treated with dignity and remain connected to their community.
